If there were any doubts about Flipkart being the exclusive retail partner for Xiaomi in India, it is time we put them to rest. The Indian online retailer has finally confirmed that it would be exclusively retailing Xiaomi smartphones in India. BGR India had exclusively reported that Flipkart would be the exclusive retail partner for Xiaomi in India. However, unlike Motorola, where Flipkart imported the devices, Xiaomi will import devices in India and use Flipkart as its distribution and retail partner. The Xiaomi Mi 3 will go up on pre-order tomorrow for Rs 14,999. The Xiaomi Mi 3 flaunts a 5-inch 1080p IPS display and is powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone also features 16GB of internal memory, 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-flash, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 3,050mAh battery and connectivity options like dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Wi-Fi Direct.
By using an online-only retail model like Motorola, Xiaomi can save major distribution and retail cost that could add anywhere between 10 to 20 percent to the cost of smartphones. Xiaomi has an online-only model in all countries apart from China where it has explored retail in brick and mortar stores.
