E-commerce giant Flipkart has just announced the launch of a new membership ‘Flipkart Plus’. This new program will launch on the 72nd Independence Day of the country. Flipkart claims that this membership is “designed to delight Indian customers” and added that this is an “India-first program”. The company added that this new program has been formulated after rigorous data analysis that was spread over years. One interesting thing about this new program is that Flipkart added that all major internet companies in the market will take part in the initiative and help it become “one of the best benefits program” to launch in the country.
According to the announcement, this new membership-based benefit program will come without any fee while offering “a wide range of choices on rewards.” The primary benefits include free delivery, early access to major sale events, ‘superior customer support’, and fast shipping. The company went on the explain that it will offer free delivery for “crores of products” that are available on the e-commerce platform. Users will get the chance to shop before other customers on sale events such as the Big Billion Days, and Big Shopping Days. As part of the ‘superior’ customer support, Flipkart promises faster response time along with priority customer care.

In addition to all these benefits, the company also announced that it will start ‘Plus Coin’ which users can earn with each new other. These coins can then be used to ‘unlock’ all the benefits mentioned above. The company also mentioned that even though most platforms only offer benefit programs to their customers, Flipkart is also planning to extend this program to its partners. One thing to note here is that this new membership plan is similar to Flipkart First, another program that the company had launched in the past.
Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO for Flipkart issued a statement adding, “At Flipkart, we deeply understand the Indian customer and solve for them meaningfully. This means that everything we do is not just limited to a particular section of the society but appeals to a wider audience.” It is likely that the company is planning to take on Amazon Prime with this announcement.
