Lenovo-owned Motorola launched its battery-centric Moto E4 Plus earlier this week along the Moto E4. The Flipkart-exclusive smartphone went up for sale on July 12 and within 24 hours, it crossed one lakh units in sales. Flipkart revealed that it sold the smartphone at the rate of over 580 units per minute for the first one hour.
The USP of the Moto E4 Plus is its 5,000mAh battery which is claimed to offer up to two days of backup on a single charge. This also makes it the first Moto smartphone to house a massive battery. Flipkart further said that close to 1.5 lakh customers showed interest in the smartphone by visiting the product page in the first hour of going live.
If one is to compare, Xiaomi sold more than 250,000 Redmi 4 units in eight minutes on mi.com and Amazon India on the first day of its flash sales. The Redmi 4 is priced at Rs 6,999 and boasts a 4,100mAh battery. Although the sales figure is after a combined sale on both platforms, it nonetheless is significantly higher than the Moto E4 Plus. The Redmi 4 also added to Amazon India’s overall popularity as the platform witnessed more than 10 million hits per minute during the flash sales.
The Moto E4 Plus boasts impressive features such as Android Nougat out-of-the-box and a 13-megapixel rear camera, however, the sales success is also attributed to Flipkart’s offline campaign where ‘Mobile-Mobile Charger’ vans, which were fitted with multiple charging points traveled across Bangalore to reach out to customers with battery issues. The campaign is said to have reached out to over 45 million people on social channels. In terms of location-specific interest, the Moto E4 Plus witnessed most demand in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar which together contributed to 12 percent of the overall sales number. In addition to the BuyBack program, there are other lucrative offers on the smartphone as well, including 2 months of free Hotstar subscription and Reliance Jio Prime subscription with 30GB additional data.
