Flipkart, widely popular Indian e-commerce platform has turned 10 this year. Founded by Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal in the year 2007, the portal was known for just selling paperback and competitive books. Today it is one of the leading tech firms in the country, selling from books to apparels and smartphones to automobiles, Flipkart is selling them all. While the celebrations continue for Flipkart, we came across a story from the time when the company was still an idea and the Bansal’s were preparing to take their leap. Nilesh Head, Product executive at Flipkart, shared screengrab of a conversation between Sachin and Binny. The chat dates back to October 2007, the year when Flipkart was launched. From the conversation, we could figure out an anticipated Sachin is being informed by Binny about the domain Flipkart.com going live on the internet. Binny also asks Sachin to create his account for credibility, we guess he’s referring to registering on the platform.

Well, clearly all the strategies made and executed in those initial years paid off well to the co-founders duo and they went to write a major success story, also credited to give rise to startup culture in the country. The two became an inspiration to a whole lot of young entrepreneurs which drew attentions of policy makers as well. Today, strengthening startups has made its place in government propaganda and a bit is owed to Flipkart among other then-startups. Earlier this year in January, Flipkart announced major managerial restructuring and appointed Kalyan Krishnamurthy as CEO. Binny Bansal is currently designated as Group CEO while Sachin Bansal heads the group as the Executive chairman.

Before teaming up to kick start Flipkart Online Services in 2007, Sachin and Binny worked for Amazon. Both Sachin and Binny are alumni of IIT Delhi and they together made it Time Magazine’s list of top 100 influential people in the world. Flipkart is headquartered in Bangalore and has acquired major e-commerce platforms such as Myntra, Jabong, and a payment solutions startup PhonePe.
