When Apple unveiled iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite at the WWDC this year, one of the presentation slides mentioned Flyover City Tours as a new feature in the Maps app. 9To5Mac has put up a video showing this new feature in action.
This new feature essentially gives you a bird’s eye view of popular landmarks in select cities. You will be able to zoom in and see them from all angles. For now, the feature is only available for cities including New York, San Francisco, San Jose, Glasgow, Barcelona, Rome and Paris. These cities are said to be marked in Yellow, which will make it easy for users to distinguish.
According to the publication, the feature will be available in iOS 8 as well as OS X Yosemite. Those who have iOS 8 beta installed on their devices can try out the feature right away. In Maps, switch to ‘Hybrid’ view and click on one of the above mentioned cities. It will pop up a message saying that City Tour is available and clicking on it will start the tour.
If you don’t have access to iOS 8 beta, you can watch the feature in action in the demo video below.
