The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is all set to be launched at an event in New York City on August 9, and will be the most powerful and feature-filled Samsung smartphone yet. And if the latest reports by 9to5Google and XDA Developers are true, popular mobile game Fortnite could be launching on Android alongside it, and exclusive to the new phone for a limited period.

Fortnite is currently available only on iOS, and along with PUBG Mobile is one of the most popular mobile games around today. An Android port for Fortnite has been rumored for some time now, and we could finally see the game come to the platform with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, likely as a pre-installed app. The report suggests that the game will be exclusive to Samsung for a 30-day period, after which it will roll out widely for Android through the Google Play Store.

The popular battle royale game is developed by Epic Games, an American video game developer that is also known for the Unreal Engine and game series, Gears of War series and Infinity Blade series. Fortnite has been a huge financial success for the company, and setting up on Android will only add to that success. The 30-day exclusivity window will be a big selling point for Samsung; gamers that are looking to get onto Fortnite on Android will want to shell out for the phone in order to get early access to the game.

The strategy will be a bit awkward though, since the Samsung Galaxy Note series is pitched as a productivity device rather than a gaming option. While it’s likely to have more than enough power to run the game smoothly, it’s an entirely different approach for what could well be the last time a Note device launches on its own. Epic Games, on the other hand, might stand to gain some revenue from this deal with Samsung, but will obviously want to open up to the entire Android platform as soon as possible.
