Freedom 251 specifications and features: The smartphone has a 4-inch display with 480×800 WVGA resolution. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 8GB of internal storage, and supports expandable storage up to 32GB via microSD card.

The Freedom 251 sports a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera at the back and VGA selfie camera. Connectivity options include 3G and dual-SIM. The smartphone is said to come preloaded with Digital India apps such as Swachh Bharat among others. But the unit we had briefly used for our hands on didn t come with these apps.

There has been a lot of buzz about the smartphone for launching at an unbelievable price. But the smartphone has already landed in controversy because of the unrealistic pricing as well as copied design from the iPhone. In fact, we also found these claims to be true.

Though backed by the Indian government, the company hasn t revealed whether the smartphone has been manufactured in India or not. It hasn t also clarified as yet how the company has achieved this pricing, or how sustainable is this model.

Nonetheless, such an ultra low cost smartphone is likely to help push smartphone and mobile Internet adoption in the country. We have to wait and see how the company copes up with such massive demand, and delivers.
