With new Apple iPhones expected to launch in September, we re seeing countless rumors around the devices almost every day. There have been number of speculations around the device s hardware and design. The most recent rumor comes thanks to a new a patent filed by Apple, which suggests the new iPhones to be more water resistant than the current models.
The patent was spotted on the USPTO (Unites States Patent and Trademark Office), and it suggests that the company is working on making it possible to use phones along with accessories under water. The patent talks about a smartphone connector and accessories that can create a liquid-tight seal when connected to each other. Apple doesn t mention which accessories the feature will apply too, but they will be able to function normally in wet, moist, or dirty environments.
By making the connector more waterproof, Apple iPhones will feature a higher Ingress rating of IP68. That would make the iPhone waterproof enough to be submerged under 1.5 meter of water for 40 minutes. The current generation of iPhones come with IP67 rating, which allows them to function under one meter of water for 30 minutes.
We can t be certain if the Apple iPhones and accessories coming out in September will carry this feature. However, we can expect it to be a crucial part of Apple iPhones and even iPads in the near future. Currently Samsung s flagship Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are one of the few phones that come with IP68 rating.
