Twitter timelines of most Indian users might be abuzz due to a controversy about a famous parody account being ‘suspended’ today. It all started with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeting about celebrating the history and culture of Karnataka. The tweet read, “Let’s celebrate the rich History and Culture of Karnataka. Happy Kannada Rajyothsava.” However, later @GabbbarSinghreplied with a particulary snarky tweet which read, “@ArvindKejriwal Sir, that’s like everyday for you, Kar-nataka day #Drama.” In a very short time after posting the tweet, the @GabbbarSingh account was suspended. This has led to outrage on the social media website, the parody account’s fans have started the hashtag #BringBackGabbbarSingh. There are some who have also requested Twitter India to reactivate the account. BGR India has reached out to Twitter India regarding the issue, but at the time of filing the story, the company has not responded. Gabbar Singh is among the most followed parody accounts in the country with over four lakh followers, and it has garnered a large following courtesy of its entertaining one-liners. The account has been under scanner in the past as well for making comments on different political parties. If reports are to be believed, making comment on Arvind Kejriwal is not the only reason Gabbbar Singh’s has been suspended. As reported by officechai.com, the account has been allegedly suspended for sharing a video clip from an upcoming movie, which is clearly a case of copyright infringement.
Talking about Arvind Kejriwal, he too hasn’t been averse to controversies on social media. Recently, he locked horns with Amarinder Singh accusing the Congress’ Punjab CM hopeful of using “drug money” in his campaign. We recently came across a parody account called @TrollKejri, tweeted to various brands like Samsung and LG asking for help in an amusing manner.
This is not the first time Twitter is suspending accounts. Recently, Ricky Vaughn, one of the most prominent members of the Alt-Right and a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, was suspended. His account was suspended due to comment made in white nationalism and posting anti-Semitic content. Twitter also suspended Russian-themed parody accounts, for tweeting their support using the hashtag, #NoGulagforDarthPutinKGB.
People have been trolling Arvind Kejriwal and at the same time requesting Twitter to bring back Gabbbar Singh’s account. Below are some hilarious tweets which explain the same:
