Worldwide, HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones is one of the most popular series right now. However, things haven’t been going so well for Game of Thrones, HBO or the fans either, this season. Last week some of HBO’s data, along with the script of some unaired episodes of Game of Thrones, and some other shows were hacked. To be precise, a total of 1.5TB data was stolen. And now, the fourth episode of Game of Thrones has been leaked online.
An unaired episode titled “The Spoils of War” of Game of Thrones has leaked online, an HBO spokesperson confirmed to BuzzFeed News. Fourth in the show’s seventh season, the episode is scheduled to be aired this Sunday in other countries, and Monday in India. However, not to confuse this with the previous hack, HBO confirmed that the leaking of episode four has nothing to do with the data hack.
“HBO can confirm that the leaked episode was not a part of the recent hack,” an HBO spokesperson told the publication. And this is where things get interesting and shocking. Star India, one of HBO’s distribution partners, has claimed responsibility for the leaked episode’s origin. ALSO READ: After scripts, hackers leak unaired Game of Thrones episodes online
“This confirms the compromise of Episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action,” a Star India spokesperson said in a statement.
The leaked episode now circulating online is watermarked with the Star India logo and a “For internal viewing only” warning.
Quite naturally, this had to create a buzz on social media, and especially among the Indian audience.

The real scandal here is that Star has 1080p prints of Game of Thrones but never puts them up on Hotstar. (image from /r/India) pic.twitter.com/4kj5ClSU97
