Gboard for iOS and Android lets users create their own Emoji Mini stickers

Here is how to create Emoji Minis sticker using Gboard on Android or iOS.

Google is expanding the emoji feature recently added to Gboard virtual keyboard to let you create your own emoji. Starting today, Gboard users will be able to use the keyboard’s mini feature to create their own emoji in the form of emoji expression. The new feature is being called as the Emoji Minis, and is available for use on both iOS and Android.

Every major smartphone maker has some form of emoji expression on their platform and 3D emojis, called Animoji by Apple, are becoming a new trend among consumers. With Gboard Emoji Minis, Google seems to be ensuring that it does not get left behind in the emoji frenzy. In order to create Emoji Minis, Google is leveraging its machine learning software that mimics your face. The feature creates emojis that are styled similar to the Bitmoji styled Gboard minis.

Creating an emoji style Mini stickers for Gboard is pretty easy. Here is how.

Step 1: Click on the Stickers, and scroll over to the new Emoji Minis option. Here is you will see the option called Your Mini with a Create button. Tapping on the button open the selfie camera on your smartphone.

Step 2: After you take a selfie, emoji Minis use Google’s machine learning algorithms to suggest a skin tone, hair style and accessories that users could add to fine tune their emoji.

Step 3: Then, Gboard users choose a color for their hair, facial hair or different types of head coverings and eyewear. These Mini stickers also come in two other styles called bold and sweet.

“Emoji Minis are designed for those who may have stared into the eyes of emoji and not seen yourself staring back. These sticker versions of the emoji you use every day are customizable so you can make them look just like you,” Jennifer Daniel, Creative Director, Expressions team wrote in a Google blog post.

While companies are using additional sensors and depth cameras for achieving results like 3D emojis, Google is doing simpler things with the help of neural networks. Gboard is a cross-platform keyboard available on Android and iOS and users can create their own Emoji Minis on either of the platform.
