Gionee today launched its new flagship, the Elife E8 in India. The smartphone features a premium build quality, 24-megapixel camera and a fingerprint sensor among other nifty features. The Gionee Elife E8 will face fierce competition from the likes of OnePlus 2 and the Huawei Nexus 6P, which is expected to launch in India on October 13. Price: The Gionee Elife E8 is priced at Rs 34,999 and will be exclusively available via Snapdeal starting October 12. The OnePlus 2 is Amazon India exclusive and is priced at Rs 24,999. The smartphone not easily available as it is sold via OnePlus invite only system. On the other hand, the Huawei Nexus 6P is set to launch on October 13 and the price as shown on Google s Play Store is Rs 39,999 for the 32GB variant. Prices for 64GB and 128GB, and the availability aren t known yet. Specifications and features: The Gionee Elife E8 sports a 6-inch WQHD (1440x2560pixels) AMOLED display with pixel density of 490ppi, whereas the Nexus 6P is equipped with a 5.7-inch WQHD (1440x2560pixels) AMOLED display with pixel density of 518ppi. The screen on Nexus 6P is also covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to keep scratches at bay and oleophobic coating to keep smudges away.
In comparison, the OnePlus 2 is features a 5.5-inch full HD (1080×1920) LTPS LCD display with pixel density of 401ppi. It is also protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Clearly, the Nexus 6P and Gionee Elife E8 come equipped with a superior display compared to the OnePlus 2.
Under the hood, the Elife E8 is powered by MediaTek s MT6795 Helio X10 octa-core 2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor paired with PowerVR G6200 GPU and 3GB of RAM. On the other hand, both the OnePlus 2 and the Nexus 6P are powered by Qualcomm s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 430 GPU. The OnePlus 2 comes with 4GB of RAM whereas the Nexus 6P has 3GB of RAM.
In terms of internal storage, the Elife E8 comes with 64GB of onboard storage and a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 128GB. The OnePlus 2 comes with 64GB onboard storage whereas the Nexus 6P comes with 32GB/64GB and 128GB options. Neither of these two smartphones supports expandable storage, so Elife E8 clearly has a bit of advantage.
For the shutterbugs, the Elife E8 sports a 24-megapixel sensor with True Tone LED flash and features such as phase detection autofocus (that can focus in 0.08-0.2 seconds) and lossless zoom. The OnePlus is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash with laser autofocus, whereas the Nexus 6P is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and laser assisted autofocus. All smartphones support 4K video recording (30fps). For selfie lovers, the Elife E8 and Nexus 6P comes with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, whereas the OnePlus 2 is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera.
Connectivity options on all smartphones include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The Elife E8 and OnePlus 2 support dual SIM connectivity. The OnePlus 2 and Nexus 6P feature faster Wi-Fi 802.11ac and USB Type-C connectivity. In terms of battery, the Elife E8 comes with 3,500mAh battery, whereas the OnePlus 2 and Nexus 6P come with 3,300mAh and 3,450mAh, respectively.
On the software front, the Gionee Elife E8 ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop with Amigo 3.1 UI running atop, the OnePlus 2 ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop with Oxygen 2.1 UI running atop, whereas the Nexus 6P ships with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out-of-the-box. All smartphones also feature fingerprint sensor for added security.
As all these smartphones are closely matched in terms of their specifications, choosing the best one is pretty difficult. We will reserve our judgments till we have reviewed the Nexus 6P and Gionee Elife E8. The Nexus 6P, however, has slight of an edge, as being Google smartphone, it is more likely to get software updates as and when Google rolls out.
