Gionee has today launched a new smartphone in India called the S6 Pro. The smartphone was first announced in China back in June this year, and now Gionee has brought it to the Indian shores too. Priced at Rs 23,999, the smartphone will go on sale across retail stores in India starting October 1. The smartphone will be offered in gold and rose gold color options. Gionee is also offering buyers with three months free subscription to Saavn pro music streaming service, which otherwise costs Rs 99 per month.
Coming to Gionee S6 Pro, the smartphone features a unibody metal design with chamfered edges. The front panel has the earpiece, selfie-camera, display and a physical home button which comes embedded with a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. The left edge has the dual SIM card (hybrid microSD card) tray, whereas the right edge has power / sleep and the volume buttons. You have a 3.5mm audio port on the top and USB Type-C port at the bottom, along with the speaker grill.
Along with the smartphone, Gionee has also unveiled its first virtual reality headset priced at Rs 2,499. Made from hard plastic, the VR headset comes with split screen feature that will allow users to watch videos, while also receiving notifications from messenger apps. Gionee also has a G-Store (VR) from where users can download virtual reality-based games.

The smartphone flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. At the heart of the S6 Pro runs MediaTek’s 64-bit Helio P10 octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone also features 64GB of internal storage, along with a microSD card slot with support up to 128GB.
In the photography department, the Gionee S6 Pro sports a 13-megapixel rear camera (Sony IMX258 sensor) of aperture f/2.0, 5P lens with LED flash and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera of aperture f/2.2. Armed with a 3,130mAh battery, connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE voice calling support, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. On the software front, it runs Amigo OS 3.2 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
Gionee has once again gone wrong with the pricing. At its price point, the Gionee S6 Pro will face fierce competition from the Likes of Lenovo Z2 Plus, Xiaomi Mi 5 and LeEco Le Max2, all of which are priced under Rs 23,000 and are powered by Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor. The Lenovo Z2 Plus features 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage, the Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage whereas the Le Max2 comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB storage. The Le Max2 also has a variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage, priced at Rs 29,999. All smartphones also feature better resolution cameras compared to the S6 Pro.
