Recently, we came across reports stating that Gionee is working on two new smartphones, dubbed S9 and S9T. While the smartphones were recently spotted on TENAA, the Gionee S9 has now made its way to AnTuTu benchmarking site. Apart from was leaked before, the benchmark listing reveals some more specifications of the upcoming smartphone. While there is no word on the pricing or launch date of the smartphones, but the fact that the smartphones have been spotted on TENAA and AnTuTu may hint that a launch may not be too far off. The dual-camera setup is expected to be among the highlights of the smartphones, and both the Gionee S9 and S9T are set to look similar to each other. The differences though would in their weight and processor. Based on the TENAA listing, the front panel of Gionee S9 has the selfie camera module, ambient light sensor and earpiece above the display, and a physical home button below. The home button will mostly double-up as the fingerprint scanner. At the side, the smartphone comes with volume buttons and power button, whereas SIM card tray is expected on the left edge. The Gionee S9T is expected to feature a display wrapped under 2.5D curved glass. However, TENAA photos revealed that the smartphone could come with a piano-gloss glass back, something similar to the iPhone 7 Jet Black variant. The antenna band is also relocated along the bottom edge, just like we’ve seen on the new iPhones and Meizu Pro 6.
Gionee S9 and S9T specifications
Coming to the AnTuTu listing, it reveals that the Gionee S9 comes with a full HD (1920×1080 pixel) resolution display. Running under the hood will be a MediaTek Helio P10 chipset with eight cores paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. On the camera front, there will a 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel dual-camera setup at the back. The smartphone will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
On the camera front, the smartphones could sport a dual-rear camera with 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors along with an LED flash. While we are not aware of which technology Gionee will use, if it does use Qualcomm’s technology, the smartphone may feature an RGB (color) and a monochrome sensor to help you capture better photos. Up front, the phone could feature a 13-megapixel selfie snapper. It will come equipped with a 3,000mAh battery; the smartphone is likely to support connectivity options such as 4G LTE, GPS, Bluetooth, USB and WiFi.
The Gionee S9T, on the other hand, runs a slightly runs a faster processor clocked at 2GHz and could be offered in black and gold color options. Rest of the specifications on the smartphone are same as the S9.
To recap, Gionee had also launched the Gionee S8 earlier this year, talking about the features, the Gionee S8 comes with a display with pressure sensitive touch technology, just like ‘3D Touch’ on iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. While Gionee has not announced any such feature in its upcoming phones, it remains to be seen whether Gionee adds the feature. We can also expect the multiple WhatsApp and WeChat accounts on S9 and S9T as spotted on S8.
