Bakri Eid is just a week away and buying and selling of goats will pick up pace in the coming days. Grabbing the opportunity, sellers have now started selling goats online. Goats of various shapes and sizes are available on OLX, Quikr and goatindia ranging on different price points.
The goats are available on OLX for as low as Rs 5,000 and go up to Rs 40,000 depending on size and breed. Quikr has goats starting from Rs 10,000 and above. These goats vary in shape and size, and pictures are available for reference before buying.
Offline retailers are miffed with these online sellers, and expect these practices to dampen their sales ahead of Bakri Eid. These websites are also offering special goats just for Bakri Eid. Mohammed Salim, a goat seller in Ludhiana told Hindustan Times that he does not expect decent sales this year.
Secretary of Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid of Ludhiana Mohammad Mustaqeem told the publication, “Last year, the goats were more costly due to different market factors. However, it has been learnt that cost of goats online is a bit cheaper.”
According to the report, many retailers have complained of affected sales, as these e-tailing websites offer cheaper goats and also provide home delivery. Mustaqeem also said that last year, the goats were going for as much as Rs 10,000, but now that is expected to go down due to online sales.
