The report further reveals that both Apple and Google were competing against each other to buy the Seattle-based startup. Apple is believed to be planning to add the Wavii team to its Siri division to give its voice-assistant better ways to gather news. But with Google eventually winning the race, the California-based company will add the 25-member Wavii team to its Knowledge Graph division and is most likely to add the new summarization capabilities to Google Now.
The timing of the acquisition comes at an interesting time, with Yahoo! having acquired Summly some weeks back, which is regarded as a direct rival to Wavii.
