Like we reported yesterday, Google has launched Street View for 100 heritage monuments in India. So instead of adding streets and nooks and corners of cities on Street View, the company has collaborated with Archeological Survey of India and the Ministry of Culture to add these 100 historical sites on the Street View. Now Google Maps users can view 360 degree panoramic imagery of any of these Indian heritage sites including the Taj Mahal, Charminar, Khajurao and the Ajanta and Ellora Caves amongst many others. The company has announced the availability of Street View for the monuments in India at an event held at one of the heritage sites – the Qutub Minar in Delhi.

Rajan Anandan, VP and MD, Google India says that their aim behind creating a digital version of these Indian heritage sites is to make the billions of people know more about these places and access information about these easily.

It is the 151st anniversary of the Archaeological Survey of India and the organization has partnered with Google in order to generate interest, create awareness, reserve and preserve the monuments.

Before this National Art Gallery in India and other organizations have also collaborated with Google for its other services to provide more information about Indian culture and art to more and more people across the world.
