Google will be allowing voice Assistant integration for for device manufacturers to use it in their television, set-top boxes, and media remotes. The company has officially added support for Google Assistant and has documented on the developers support page. Google has already been offering Assistant voice support in various Android TVs, smart TV boxes, Roku smart TV box, and more, but the new policy however will ease the implementation for the manufacturers. The page also mentions that the Google Assistant integration will now allow the voice assistant to turn the device on/ off, control volume, select mode, switch apps, and more. Similarly, it’ll work with set-top-boxes (STBs) and media remotes. Google has also mentioned detailed ways to develop Google Assistant controls for manufacturers to develop their devices correctly, reports NDTV Gadgets360. Meanwhile, Google India has ramped up COVID-19 efforts for India during the extended lockdown. India will now be under lockdown for 18 more day until May 3, and Google has introduced features for people to locate night shelters and food in their cities. The search company has teamed up with the Government of India to launch this feature which will be available on all smartphones as well as KaiOS devices, and will also be available in Hindi. Google noted that this new feature will be accessible through Google Maps, Search, and Google Assistant. So it doesn’t matter if you have an Android smartphone or iOS. The company said it has started indicating the locations of hundreds of food and night shelters set up by the government across the country. Furthermore, Google India has also introduced a helpline number. This helpline number is for feature phones essentially because it lets 2G users to simply call on a number to access Google Assistant.
