Earlier this year, we first heard about Google’s plans of buying live streaming service Twitch. While there is no official word from either of the companies, the deal has reportedly been sealed, VentureBeat reports.
According to the publication, Google has paid $1 billion for Twitch, which is in line with the earlier report. The startup founded in 2011, is highly popular among gamers who share live feeds of their games, and has also seen a rise of competitive gaming as a spectator sport. The service boasts more than 50 million monthly active users, and more than 1.1 million users share videos every month.
The YouTube team is said to be handling the deal, and is likely to manage the service in the future. As mentioned above, there is no confirmation of the deal from either of the companies.
