Google Calendar is getting a new update that will help users achieve better work life balance. The scheduling and time management service on Wednesday announced a new out of office feature and a customizable working hours features that makes it easier to mark when you will be working.
With the new out of office feature, Google Calendar users can indicate that they will be unavailable when creating an event. It will make an event that looks different than normal events and automatically declines meetings that occur during this period. There is also an option for you to customize the decline message.
Google says Calendar will try to intelligently detect based on the title entered when you are creating an out of office event and change the type automatically. While there is an option to manually change the setting later, Google wants its machine learning algorithm to detect and make changes for you.
Another feature being announced allows users to customize and restrict their working hours on a day to day basis. People who try to schedule a meeting outside your designated work hours will be informed that you are not available. Google Calendar can also infer your working hours based on your timezone and past scheduling patterns. It might show a prompt asking users to set them and users can further customize them as needed.
