Android chief Sundar Pichai has shared a new video, hinting that not only does the Android L is on the way, it is ready for christening. Pichai reveals that he met some new friends today with the hashtag nationaldessertday – which makes sense since October 14 was celebrated as the National Dessert Day all across the globe. What does the L really stand for? Lemon Merengue Pie? Licorice? Lollipop? In a casting video, Google reveals a few more possibilities, including Lava Cake, Lemon Drop and Lady Finger. If that wasn’t enough of a suspense, take a closer look at the image above, and you will even spot the famous Indian dessert Laddoo on the table. Interestingly Lollipop wasn t mentioned anywhere in the video titled sweeeeet . The video at least confirmed that the next version of Android will be 5.0. Originally announced at the Google I/O event in May, Android L is a major update to Google s mobile operating system. The operating system brings along major facelift to the user interface with Material Design , and new soft keys for navigation. The company has also changed the way it caters notifications to users, and offered several features like Battery Saver, and new encryption service which will make it impossible for even Google to unlock a user s device. Among other features, the new operating system supports 4K streaming video, thanks to the adoption to H.265 codec. The update also officially switches the interpreter to ART (Android Runtime) from Dalvik.
