In the latest Chrome 64 version, the browser trims the unnecessary strings at the end of the URLs when you share them. For this, you don’t need to turn on any special setting as the browser automatically takes care of the junk at the end of long URLs. The feature works when you use the Share menu in Chrome and not Chrome Custom Tabs, as Android Police explains. You can copy to the clipboard or share directly to another app without any additional setup. However, if you select text manually in the URL bar, you can still get the full URL, including the junk at the end. As the report says, the feature had been under beta until January and is now available in the stable version.
However, there are a few imperfections with this feature. The feature removes anchor tags from the URL, which basically loads a page to a specific location in a longer article. So if you visit a shortened link, which has been shared in Chrome, you will be taken to the top of the page, and not the specific location on the page.
This is one of the recent additions to Chrome 64. Recently, the company announced that it will block ads on sites that repeatedly display disruptive ads after they have been flagged by users. To identify and block disruptive ads, the browser will rely on an industry group called Coalition for Better Ads, which is dedicated to improving the ad experience on the web.
Other recent updates to Google Chrome include the ability to mute entire sites which autoplay videos, HDR support for Windows users, and labeling non-HTTPS sites as ‘not secure’.
