Google is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow grouping of tabs to make it faster and easier to organize them. Browsing by tabs is one of the most appreciated features by users, and its implementation in browsers has greatly facilitated navigation on different sites. Although on occasions, when there are too many tabs open, it teds to becomes difficult to find the a particular tab.

Google Chrome could launch a solution to this problem very soon. The folks at ChromeStory discovered the mention of  “Tab Groups” in a list of published changelogs for Chromium. This function should arrive in the next few months to the “Canary” version of Google Chrome Beta. When the beta testing phase will be completed, the feature will be launched for all users in the stable version update for Google Chrome browser, although there’s no specific date to it.

The new feature would be called ‘Tab Groups’, and according to Google‘s description users can organize tabs into visually distinct groups (separate tabs associated with different tasks). At the moment, it seems that the new feature is at an early stage of development, and hence there are no details on their functionality.

It will be interesting to see if it’s something similar to what Mozilla offers with Containers. Google could also go a step further by incorporating special features that are only available through the use of Chrome extensions such as The Great Suspender, OneTab, Tab Group or Tabs Outliner.
