Google Chromecast 2018: Key features
The Google Chromecast 2018 is not a big upgrade from the previous model, which was introduced a couple of years ago. In terms of features, it fails to match the Chromecast Ultra, which remains the feature-packed media streaming device im Google’s product lineup. The 2018 version of Chromecast supports 1080p video streaming at 60 frames per second but lacks support for 4K video streaming, which is only available on Chromecast Ultra.
With the 2018 model, Google claims 15 percent improvement in performance compared to the outgoing model. The device does support Chromecast Audio technology, which allows the user to control music playback in sync with other speakers connected to Google devices. The new Chromecast supports wireless connections like WiFi 802.11ac, both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. There is HDMI through which it connects to a TV and a microUSB port is there for charging.
Customers buying the new Chromecast will get an optional ethernet adapter with the device. The updated model will work with devices running Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and ChromeOS. The 2018 version of Chromecast will also work with Google’s range of smart speakers, the Home Mini and Google Home. The new Chromecast looks identical to its predecessor and comes with a matte finish on the top, which is a change from the glossy finish on its predecessor.
