Is the next Android version going to be called Namey McNameface? Google has just rolled out Android N Developer Preview 4 that includes an Easter egg, teasing ‘Namey McNameface’ name. The Easter egg can be discovered under Settings > About the device, after which you have to tap on the Android version and then long press the N logo. Google at its recent I/O conference had announced crowdsourcing the name of the next version of Android. It had set a dedicated website to take suggestions from everyone. During the event, Google had joked about naming it Namey McNameface which is actually in reference to a ship that was almost got named Boaty McBoatface. Google had taken a dig at UK’s polar research ship, which was named Boaty McBoatface after a poll. However, the ship was ultimately named RRS Sir David Attenborough.
Google’s Easter egg comes shortly after the tweet of Hiroshi Lockheimer, Android s senior VP, that hinted that Android N could be named Nutella. While Google is yet to announce the final name, the Indian fans are rooting for Neyyappam, a popular south Indian sweet dish. The Kerala government had even launched a campaign to push Neyyappam as the name for Android N. Neyyappam also made it to the final list of names along with dishes like New York Cheesecake and Nuts + Cheese.
