Daydream View isn’t the company’s first feat in VR headsets. Google had previously released the ultra-affordable Google Cardboard which came across as more of a DIY project. Now, the Daydream View VR headset is a massive step up from Google Cardboard. Google has created a dedicated platform for the same, which is available on select flagship smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat OS.
The Daydream ready VR headset comes in a compact box and alongside it contains the Daydream View remote controller, user manuals and a strap which you can plug on to the controller to avoid accidental drops. The VR headset comes all wrapped in fabric finish which feels well cushioned and premium. “Inspired by the clothes we enjoy wearing, the headset is made with soft, breathable fabric,” Google said in its blog post. The Daydream View VR headset is comfortable on eyes and can be worn with glasses too.
Unlike the HTC Vive and Oculus VR headsets, the Daydream View VR headset comes with a strap going end to end on side. A top band to go above head is amiss here and thus the headset rests on your ears. The cushion helps here to avoid strain on your forehead and nose when wearing it.
The Daydream View remote controller accompanying the headset connects via Bluetooth and has USB Type-C port for charging. It has three buttons – Select, Menu and Home buttons on the front, allowing you to perform actions while using a Daydream app. There is volume rocker button on the left of it for easy media volume control. The VR headset comes with a slot inside to keep the remote controller hooked there. ALSO READ: Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ to gain Daydream VR support this summer: Google
