At day twelve of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Google is celebrating ski jumping with the Doodle Snow games. The doodle illustrates a squirrel, that starts off from the ramp with the longest jump, and suddenly surprises us with its gliders. Of course the glide helps the squirrel and it finishes first place.

Google writes in the blog, “Today we’re up in the mountains to watch Flying Squirrel complete the ski jump. Bucking tradition, our toothsome furry friend has a big advantage in this event, but it wal-nut be a runaway.” We really can’t get over all the Doodle Snow game puns!

Google also reveals the pressures of the game (and of course, continues the puns). It writes, “With great powder comes great responsibility, and many in the crowd are depending on Flying Squirrel to sleigh this jump. As Flying Squirrel takes the leap, everyone cranes their head to see this small but mighty critter soar through the air. This ski-son has been full of sleet competitors, so there’s just snow telling who will take frost place. In a nutshell, it looks like Flying Squirrel’s got this event by the tail!”

For the ones unaware, Ski jumping is a form of Nordic skiing where the skiers glide down a ramp to jump and fly as far as they can go from the launching zone to make a stable landing in the landing section. Much like the flying squirrel. There judges decide the flying scores by deducting points for every element based on the skier’s flying posture and the landing posture.

At PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, there are four events taking place, which is the Men’s Normal Hill Individual, Ladies’ Normal Hill Individual, Men’s Large Hill Individual and the Men’s Team event.

The Doodle Snow Games were started by Google to celebrate the two weeks of PyeongChang Winter Olympics 2018. The games started on February 9, and are scheduled to go on till February 25. Google plans to showcase 17 doodles in total as part of Google Snow Games, which means five more to go.
