Google Drive leaked by Lucidchart: Report

Over the past few weeks the rumor mill has worked overtime signalling the imminent launch of Google’s cloud storage platform, dubbed Google Drive. The story emphasizes the fact that Lucidchart CEO Karl Sun was a former Google employee who was in charge of Google’s move in China and also founded the company’s patent department. Apparently, he maintained close ties with the company via its philanthropic arm called Google.org. Keeping in mind these close ties, one should not be surprised if Lucidchart becomes one of the first web based services to offer Google Drive integration. This could however be an early developer build given to launch partners. The fact that Google is offering service level integration also means that Google does not look at Google Drive only as an personal cloud solution, but as a more universal cloud offering, which will boast of compatibility across a variety of services.

Previously, it had been reported that Larry Page was in charge of a service called GDrive in 2006, but for some reason abandoned it, only to rework the project once start-ups like Dropbox gained substantial market share.
