After what has been a long wait, Android One users in India have finally started receiving Lollipop update. This is after the company announced that the update was coming in the next few weeks. This is however a gradual rollout on a weekly basis, so only some selected smartphones will get the OTA update notification. To those with Android One phones in India, here s where we are with the over-the-air (OTA) update that will bring Android Lollipop to you soon. We ve already started rolling out Lollipop to a small number of phones in India. This is a gradual process and so each week we ll push the OTA update to more phones selected at random (pro-tip: connecting over Wi-Fi will increase your odds). We thank you again for your patience, and please stay tuned for further updates.
There is currently no word on what update is being rolled out, but it is likely to be the 5.1 version. It is after all the version running on the Android One smartphones recently launched in Indonesia and Philippines.
As mentioned above, it is a gradual roll out, so you might have to wait a bit till you are notified of the update. As per Sengupta, being connected to a Wi-Fi network improves your chances of being picked.
While Google had promised that Android One smartphones, alongside the Nexus lineup, would be the first to get Android updates, it failed to stick to its promise. Android users in India have seen the likes of Motorola, Xolo and Micromax push updates for their phones before Google. But as they say, better late than never.
