Google announced recently that it will be shutting down its secondary email app Inbox by March 2019. The company is planning to discontinue the app as it has decided to focus solely on Gmail and improving on its features further. A specific date hasn’t been mentioned, but Google has rolled out a transition guide to help users switch from Inbox to the new Gmail without any difficulties.

Launched in 2014, Inbox was introduced by Google as an experimental app to try out new and intuitive features that can make the experience with emails more productive. Many features like the email snooze option, Smart Reply, Nudges and high-priority notifications that have only been introduced on Gmail now, were first introduced as a test on Inbox app. A big reason why Google also created Inbox was because it did not want to bring in substantial changes to Gmail, as millions of people depended on the email client on a daily basis.

Starting April however, Google finally decided to give Gmail a much-awaited overhaul and port many of Inbox’s well received features into its primary email service. As the complete transition comes closer, Google believes it’s best to focus on Gmail and further improve on its set of new features. In the last month, Google introduced Confidential mode on Gmail to make email experience even more secure. The new feature includes self-destructive emails that get deleted automatically after a said period of time.

Essentially, the transition guide created by Google is nothing but a tutorial on how one can use the same features available on Inbox even on Gmail. The list of features includes Snooze emails, Follow-up nudges, Hover actions and Smart Reply. As both email clients operate with the same Google account, you’re bound to get all your email history on Gmail well in advance.
