In a rather non-traditional way, Google has used riddles and puzzle solving to reveal the dates of this year’s I/O developer conference. Once solved, the company reveals that I/O 2017 will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California between May 17 and 19. Google first posted a cryptic tweet on its developer Twitter account, which takes one to a dedicated ‘Save the Date’ page. According to Android Police, this puzzle involved coordinates, a chess board, and the dates were finally revealed when the internet was able to solve it. Google’s I/O 2017 page is live, but at the time of filing the story, there are no details or dates mentioned. Instead, there’s just an animated I/O logo, and the tagline — “Check back soon for more details.”
This is the 11th iteration of Google I/O developer conference. While most of the conferences have been held at Moscone Events Center in San Francisco, this would be the third time the event is taking place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. It is too early to predict Google’s theme for this year’s I/O. The usual suspects include a first look at Android O, Android Wear, and maybe even next-generation Pixel hardware. Last year, the company focused a lot on machine learning, and announced Daydream VR, Google Home, Allo and Duo apps among others.
