Google I/O 2018: The best apps and games announced

Here are the best apps and games announced at this year's Google i/O Developer Conference

Every year at Google I/O, the search giant hands out awards to some of most outstanding apps and games. Google I/O 2018 was no different. The third annual Google Play Awards were listed out in nine different categories, and here are the winners. The awards for the Best Standout Well-Being App was handed out to Simple Habit. The meditative app helps users reduce stress levels and improve sleep quality. It encourages people to find five minutes a day to meditate in their busy lifestyles. In the best Accessibility Experience, Be My Eyes was the winner. This app is designed for the visually impaired, and helps them connect with others over an audio-video connection. Khan Academy was the winner in the best Social Impact Category. The online learning app gives you access to over 10,000 video lessons over a wide range of subjects including math, science, economics and others. It s flexible enough to help users learn at their own pace and time. The winner in the Indie section was Old Man s Journey, which is a narrative game that lets players explore the world from an old man s perspective. Likewise, Episode is a real life simulation game that won under the Best Community building game category.

Coming to AR and VR, BBC Earth: Life in VR was recognized as the app to deliver the best AR and VR experience. The Build for Billions category focused on apps that have optimized their features and services for emerging markets. This year, the winner is India’s very own Flipkart. For the Best Startup, the photo editing app, Canva took the lead for its intuitive and creative set of features. Lastly, the award for the Best Breakthrough app was given to Empires and Puzzles.
