Google Lens feat

Google Lens, the feature that allows users to bring up relevant information using visual analysis, has been around for nearly a year now. The feature was first announced Google I/O annual developer conference last year and was consequently merged with Google Assistant. The feature has been available on Google’s own Pixel and Nexus branded smartphones for sometime now but it is yet to become available on other models.

Now, OnePlus is bringing Google Lens to Assistant on the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T smartphones. The feature was spotted by a Reddit user named Agent8923 and others have also reported seeing the feature on their OnePlus smartphones. With the update, the lens icon now appears in the bottom corner of the Google Assistant. Tapping icon opens the camera and lets you tap items in the viewer for visual identification.

Google will then attempt to identify the object and show relevant search results and information. The Lens shows an early glimpse at the future of visual search but it doesn’t always work. Since its debut last year, Google has refined it to offer support for more search items and might add new features at I/O 2018 next week.

The update is now rolling out to all OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T owners who have their device’s preferred language set to English. The release follows a similar update for Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 which gained similar integration. It also shows how longer it takes for Google’s OEM partners to integrate a feature that has been available on search giant’s own smartphones for nearly a year now.

If you already use Google Assistant to set alarm or summon it to play music of your choice then Lens will serve as an handy feature especially when you want to look for an object.
