Google has updated its Maps app for Android to include navigation for public transport in over 400 cities across the globe. Version 5.7 of Google Maps will help you navigate in Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation Ltd, Delhi Metro, Chennai MRTS and Kolkata Metro. Once you hit navigate, the app will let you know when it is time to get off the transit system to reach your destination. It works in the background too by vibrating the phone and initiating a notification in the notification bar. However, since the app uses GPS signals to figure out the user’s location, we are not sure how helpful it would be in underground metro systems. Still, simply knowing how many stations later one has to get down could be handy enough in a foreign city when you do not know the local language. Google has also refreshed some other elements like making it easier to enter navigation mode, a better search functionality and has added photos to places. Update Google Maps on your Android smartphone today by visiting Android Market. Hit the jump to watch a video of transit navigation in action.
