Back in October, Google introduced a new update for Maps, which let one using navigations easily make a pit stop or a quick detour. Today, Google has brought this feature to India. This feature is restricted to the Android app though, and lets users search for places like petrol pumps, restaurants or stores along their route. Before the update, one had to exit navigation and select a new destination again. When using turn-by-turn navigation, you will see a magnifying glass at the top-right corner. Clicking on it will open a drop-down menu showcasing options like petrol pumps, restaurants, cafes or stores. You can also use the search bar to look for something more specific. Once you have clicked on a place, the map will reroute you to that destination, and will also show you how much time your pit stop or detour will add to your original travel time.
This new update will ensure that they can make a sudden or anticipated pit stop and detours without having to exit navigation mode,” Suren Ruhela, Director, Google Maps said. “They can also add these to their routes for subsequent use if required, thereby easing the navigation process and also saving time.
Google seems to be gradually rolling out this update for Android users. At the time of filing this story, we hadn’t received the update yet.
