Of the numerous apps that Google has for Android and iOS, Maps is perhaps one of the most popular and useful. The app is used by billions of users around the globe on a frequent basis, for everything from planning trips to getting turn-by-turn directions. In addition to that, Maps also lets users find the addresses of registered businesses like bakeries, shopping outlets, and more. Now, with a new update, Google has made it even easier to get in touch with these business establishments.

Users can now message establishments having registered business profiles directly from Google Maps app. This can be done via a new ‘Messages’ option, which can be accessed from the hamburger menu by swiping to the right.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of this new feature is that users can inquire with businesses directly, instead of needing to call them up. However, for the feature to work, a business must have the messaging functionality enabled.

Also, as detailed in an official Google Maps blog-post, businesses that want to accept incoming messages from users need to install the new My Business app (available on both iOS and Android).

The feature is being made available for Google Maps app on both iOS and Android. However, since the rollout is gradual, it will take a while for all users around the world to take advantage of it. The new messaging functionality will most likely arrive on both smartphone platforms via an update for the Google Maps app, so keep an eye for any app updates on your iOS/Android mobile device(s) in the coming days.
