Google has announced the launch of Google One, the new, and revamped paid expanded storage plans for its users. This is to make it easier for users to choose a paid plan if they are running of storage space for Gmail and other essential Google services such as Google Photos. The company explained in a post on its official blog, The Keyword, the need for a more simplified plan as more and more users moving to the cloud to back up things that are important to them including photos, videos, and even documents.
Another reason for this is the increased file size of things such as the 4K videos and high-resolution images take in comparison to the 1080p or even 720p videos and lower resolution images a few years back. The company said that it will upgrade Google Drive storage plans to Google One in coming months but this change will not affect G Suite business customers. To clarify, the company is not re-branding Google Drive as a whole and existing Google Drive paid storage customers will be automatically upgraded to Google One.

This new plan has tweaked the pricing as well as the amount of storage that some of the plans offer. The base plan offers 100GB for $1.99/month, 200GB for $2.99/month, 2TB for $9.99/month, 10TB for $99.99/month, 20TB for $199.99/month and 30TB for $299.99/month. The company has increased the existing 1TB plan to now offer 2TB of storage while the 200GB plan for $2.99/month is new. The interesting thing to note here is that users will be able to share their storage with up to five family members so that everyone gets their private storage space.
Storage is not the only thing Google One is offering as it will also give “one-tap access” to Google experts that can help users with their products and services. They will be available 24/7 by phone, email or chat. The company will also offer additional benefits such as credits on Google Play or deals on some of the hotels that are found in the search results. It added that it will be adding more benefits over time. Google One will be available on a “limited basis” in the beginning and Google is working on expanding it and bringing it to more countries.
