Google is reportedly planning to release two Nexus smartphones this year. A new report claims that the Mountain View-based company has partnered with LG and Huawei to produce its next flagship smartphones. The Android maker will be revealing the new Nexus handsets at its I/O developer conference in May, the report adds. Also Read - 7 interesting Android M features that Google did not tell us about

Google has partnered with LG previously for Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones, but this would be the first time the company struck a deal with Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei for its flagship smartphones. The partnership could help Huawei get more global exposure, bolstering its existing vast presence. Also Read - Watch Google's 'PC on a microSD card' Project Vault in action

It will be interesting to see what Google plans to call its next flagship smartphones. The company has previously used numerical value in the moniker to signify the screen size of the device. For instance, the Nexus 5 has a 5-inch display, while the Nexus 6 sports a 6-inch screen. Google will have to figure out a new naming convention as it has already used Nexus 7 twice for its flagship tablets. And it is unlikely that its new flagship smartphones will have 7-inch displays. Regarding the unveiling of new Nexus smartphones at the developer conference, it seems unlikely for Google to refresh its flagship smartphone so soon. The company typically releases its smartphone in the later months of the year, in conjunction with a new Android release. Another report claims that Huawei will be using its own processor — likely the Hisilcon Kirin — in its Nexus smartphone. One of the new Nexus smartphones could sport mid-range specification, but that’s just speculation from my end. More on this as it develops.
