Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2 have seen multiple leaks in the past that have given some ideas as to what the smartphones will look like. The latest leak now gives a closer look at the smartphone, and also mentions some new design elements. While Google Pixel 2 leaks have slowly been intensifying, compared to competitors Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8, the Pixels haven’t seen much traction. There have been plenty of renders and even case leaks but none gave an up, close and personal look at the smartphone. The latest leak finally shows an alleged live photo of what the smartphone will look like, and fans are probably not going to be too happy.
The tons of leaked renders have all retained the most dreaded thing from the original Pixels – the semi-glass back and the top and bottom bezels. Unfortunately, the latest leaks from VentureBeat and GSMArena show no difference. In fact, the Google Pixel XL 2 seems to have the same display size, but slightly larger top and bottom bezels. The side bezels are clearly visible too. Looking at the upcoming crop of flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8, both expected to flaunt a side bezel-free display, Google Pixel XL 2 looks behind its time. However, these are only the early days and the final design might differ from what the leaks showcase.
The one thing that stands out is the speaker grille on the bottom bezel. Google seems to have updated the Pixel XL 2 with stereo speakers. The front reveals nothing new other than the addition of the speaker. The back is slightly more different than the original Google Pixel. The glass back on the rear panel is now smaller with the fingerprint sensor outside the glass. This is in keeping with earlier leaks, which suggested the same. There is a single camera sensor on the top left accompanied by the dual-LED flash. No other sensors are visible on the smartphone. The tipster who leaked the image has suggested that the Pixel XL 2 has a better in-hand feel. ALSO READ: Mystery Google device ‘Dorado’ pops up on AOSP, revealed to be Verizon Wear24: Report
Google Pixel XL 2 will also be manufactured by HTC, the manufacturer of the original Pixel series. There were rumors suggesting Pixel 2 will be manufactured by HTC, whereas Pixel XL 2 might be an LG device, but the latest leaks tell differently. Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 are both likely to come with Edge Sense, which debuted on the HTC U11. Also, gone is the 3.5mm headphone jack. Google Pixel introduced a camera much better than others despite having a single sensor, and the Pixel XL 2 is expected to match up to it. The Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 are expected to be announced in October. Cases for the smartphones are already under production as well as listed on many e-commerce portals in the international market. Google is expected to introduce the black and silver shades of the smartphone, but it is unclear if the limited US only blue edition will also be announced. Though the expected launch date is not too far off, it is still some way away and the final design might be different from what the leaks suggest. It might be wise to wait a bit for the final announcement from Google. ALSO READ: Google is working on Snapchat-like ‘Discover’ feature called ‘Stamp’
