These past few months have treated us with multiple leaks and rumors about the next generation Pixel smartphones. Both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are expected to come with improvements and upgrades under the hood, as well as design. In addition, Google is also expected to launch two more products from its hardware bank. These include a Google Home Mini, and a new Pixelbook. Here’s a detailed look at what we can expect from Google’s event tonight.
Google Pixel 2
Starting with the design, leaked images of the alleged Pixel 2 reveal the front panel with thick bezels on top and bottom. The front camera is located on the left corner of the top bezel with a long earpiece which could also double as a stereo speaker. There’s another speaker grille at the bottom bezel. At the back, Google will possibly continue with the two-tone combination where the first half is covered in glass and the lower in metal.
On the top-left corner, the camera lens and LED flash are placed, and the circular fingerprint sensor sits at the center. The power key and volume rocker are located on the right side, while the USB Type-C port will possibly be placed at the bottom. Google could be ditching the 3.5mm audio jack this time. As far as specifications are concerned, the Pixel 2 could feature a 5-inch or 5.1-inch full HD (1080p) display. It will most likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC with storage options of 64GB and 128GB. The smartphone will possibly be fueled by a 2,700mAh battery. More features for the Pixel 2 include IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, and the squeeze technology seen on HTC U11. Color options for the Pixel 2 is expected to be Just Black, Clearly White, and Kinda Blue. According to past rumors, the Pixel 2 64GB could be priced at $649 (approximately Rs 55,800), and the 128GB variant will cost $749 (approximately Rs 62,300).
Google Pixel 2 XL
Unlike last year, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are rumored to differ in terms of design. The Pixel 2 XL has been leaked with a tall display of 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is bordered with thin bezels on top and bottom and on the sides as well. There’s a front camera on the top panel along with the same earpiece/speaker on top and bottom. The rear camera lens placement is a little different as well with the LED flash on the right side.
The circular fingerprint sensor still sits at the center with the power key and volume rocker on the right side. While the Pixel 2 maintains a monochrome color scheme, the Pixel 2 XL is seen with a black and white color combination, and an orange colored power key. The Pixel 2 XL is also expected to be IP67 certified, and come with HTC U11’s squeeze feature.
Camera specifications for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are unknown, but it is widely expected that Google will ditch the dual-camera setup. As for the pricing, the Pixel 2 XL 64GB is rumored to cost $849 (approximately Rs 55,800), and the 128GB variant will retail at $949 (approximately Rs 62,300).
