Google Pixel 2, Sony Xperia XZ1 to HTC U11+: 10 smartphones running on Android Oreo

Here's a list of ten smartphones running Android Oreo.

It’s been over two months since Google launched the latest iteration of its mobile OS, Android 8.0 Oreo. After a month of its release, Android Oreo debuted on the October Android distribution list with 0.2 percent active devices. Some notable Android Oreo features include Picture-in-Picture mode, Notification Dots, Notification Channels, Autofill, among others. Android Oreo is also capable of minimizing background activity in the apps you use least. Android Oreo also improves connectivity with Wi-Fi Aware, which allows users to connect through Wi-Fi without internet access. Google also promises better battery life for your smartphones with the latest OS.

Although it’s been only two months, there are a few smartphones which are currently running on Android Oreo. Some have launched with Android Oreo out-of-the-box, while the other privilege lot received the stable OS upgrade early in September. There’s a host of smartphones in line to receive Android Oreo as well, but here’s a list of smartphones available that are currently running the stable version. Google Pixel 2

As expected, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones launched with Android Oreo out-of-the-box. The smartphones were launched on October 4 with the Pixel 2 going on sale on November 1. The Pixel 2 features a 5-inch full HD OLED display, while the Pixel 2 XL flaunts a 6-inch P-OLED QHD+ display. Both the smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. The storage options offered on the Pixel 2 series are 64GB and 128GB. HTC U11+

The most recent smartphone with Android Oreo is the HTC U11+. The HTC U11+ features a 6-inch Quad HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 835 SoC. In terms of memory, the smartphone comes in two variants of 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM plus 128GB storage. The smartphone also features HTC’s Edge Sense technology but with upgrades. HTC U11 Life

Along with the HTC U11+, the HTC U11 Life also launched which is an Android One smartphone. Packed with decent specifications, the HTC U11 Life runs stock Android 8.0 Oreo on the software front. It also stands at an advantage of receiving updates in the first batch of smartphones courtesy of Google’s Android One program. The mid-ranger features a 5.2-inch Super LCD display with Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Under its hood runs the Snapdragon 630 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Huawei Mate 10

Huawei’s Mate 10 is among the last flagship smartphones to launch this year. The Mate 10 will also run Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 custom skin on top. The Mate 10 will also receive Google’s Neural Network API by early 2018. In terms of specifications, the Mate 10 comes with a 5.9-inch 2K LCD Quad HD display, and AI-powered Kirin 970 SoC. Huawei Mate 10 Pro

Launched alongside the Mate 10, the Mate 10 Pro flaunts a bigger 6-inch OLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The Mate 10 Pro also offers more memory with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Like the Mate 10, the Mate 10 Pro also runs Android Oreo with EMUI 8.0 on top. The Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are also equipped with a Samsung Dex-like PC mode.

Sony Xperia XZ1

First unveiled at IFA 2017, the Xperia XZ1 was launched in India in September with a price tag of Rs 44,990. One of the highlights of the Xperia XZ1 is the ‘3D Creator’ feature which allows users to scan faces or objects, and print them on a 3D printer. The smartphone features a 5.2-inch full HD display, with Snapdragon 835 SoC under its hood. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Google Pixel, Pixel XL

Among the first batch of smartphones to receive Android Oreo upgrade was the first-generation Pixel series. Google Pixel features a 5-inch full HD display, while the Pixel XL flaunts a bigger 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display. The Pixel and Pixel XL also differ in terms of battery with 2,770mAh, and 3,450mAh respectively. The Pixel smartphones sport a 12.3-megapixel rear camera of f/2.0 aperture, and an 8-megapixel front camera. Last year, the Pixel series was awarded the best smartphone camera by DxOMark. Huawei Nexus 6P

One of the oldest smartphones to run Android Oreo is Google’s Nexus 6P manufactured by Huawei. The smartphone was also in the first batch to receive Android Oreo update after its release. Priced at Rs 39,999, the Nexus 6P comes with a 5.7-inch WQHD display, Snapdragon 810 SoC paired with 3GB RAM. For photography, it sports a 12.3-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. LG Nexus 5X

Launched with the Nexus 6P, the Nexus 5X is manufactured by LG. The smartphone is priced at Rs 29,990, and features a smaller 5.2-inch full HD display. It is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 808 SoC paired with 2GB of RAM. The Nexus 5X comes with the same camera specifics as the Nexus 6P.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

The Xperia XZ Premium is the first flagship device to receive Android Oreo upgrade. Sony recently started rolling out Android Oreo update for the flagship which is the only smartphone to boast 4K HDR display. The smartphone was launched this June running Android 7.0 Nougat. In India, it is priced at Rs 59,990. With the Android Oreo upgrade, Sony has also updated the Xperia XZ Premium with the 3D Creator feature. More features released include Autofocus burst, and Qualcomm HD audio support for wireless headphones, and app shortcuts.
