It’s hardly been a week since Google started shipping the Pixel 2 smartphones. Within this short period of time, there have already been reports of users facing certain issues with the Pixel 2 XL. The problems however don’t seem to end as the latest report states that the Pixel 2 XL charges slower than promised. The Pixel 2 XL is discovered to not charge up to its full potential of 18W. A Google Pixel 2 XL user, Nathan K. posted on Google+ the graph results indicating the smartphone’s charging process. It shows the smartphone charging in terms of wattage and temperature. According to the graph, the Pixel 2 XL starts at around 15W at the beginning, and quickly slides down to a level just above 10W within a few minutes. It remains at this level for about 50 minutes after which it slows down before reaching a full charge. The total time calculated for the Pixel 2 XL charge is 2.5 hours with a maximum temperature of 32.6 degree Celsius.
The Pixel 2 XL comes with an 18W USB Power Delivery 2.0 walled adapter. As opposed to its charging capacity of 18W, the Pixel 2 XL in this situation doesn’t seem to go above 15W. Nathan K. further highlights in his post the reason behind this “This suggests to me Google or LG is trying to avoid strain on the battery in order to maximize longevity. Rather than opting for performance, they are being extremely conservative with the charging current and temperature.” ALSO READ: Google Pixel 2 XL First impressions: Feature loaded and oozes Google sweetness
The Pixel 2 XL is fueled by a 3,520mAh battery, while the Pixel 2 has a smaller 2,770mAh battery. Nathan K. said that the Pixel 2 also charges at the same 15W, and doesn’t reach 18W. Recently, some Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users complained of a bug preventing them from using Portrait Mode while clicking photos. Google has also extended the warranty of the Pixel 2 smartphones following complaints of screen issues like dull colors, and “burn ins”. Google is yet to respond to this charging imbalance.
