If you go by the appearance of the Pixel 2 XL, there are certain similarities as well as differences when compared to the older Pixel XL. For starters, the Pixel 2 XL features an aluminium metal unibody design with the same dual-tone combination. The display on the Pixel 2 XL is slightly taller than before and offers a higher resolution as well. There is a 6-inch P-OLED display with quad HD+ resolution, and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Although the top and bottom bezel remain thick, the overall appearance is much more enhanced over the Pixel XL, which features a 5.5-inch quad HD AMOLED display. In addition to that, the Pixel 2 XL also features an always-on display for easy access to notifications without waking up the screen. Hardware and OS
While it was widely speculated the new Pixel phones would run Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 836 SoC, it did not hold true. In comparison, the older Pixel XL offered lower onboard storage and was equipped with the then top-end processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. The battery capacity too has been bumped up in the new Pixel 2 XL. The older model was fueled by a 3,450mAh battery, while the newer one is powered by a 3,520mAh battery. On the software front, Pixel 2 XL runs the latest Android 8.0 Oreo while the Pixel XL came with Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with Pixel UI layered above.
Despite being the year for dual cameras, the Pixel 2 XL is still sticking to the single camera module. However, as Google says, the camera technology is so advanced (read Portrait mode with one camera) that it can possibly give the existing dual-camera phones a run for its money. There is a 12.2-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/1.8 with optical image stabilization (OIS), 4K video recording capabilities and Machine Learning-based Portrait mode to add DSLR-like bokeh effects to the photos without the dual-camera setup. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel camera. ALSO READ: Google Pixel 2 XL vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs Apple iPhone 8 Plus: Price, specifications and features comparison

There are features such as HDR+, Smartburst, and 4K video recording with video stabilization. The front camera remains the same at 8-megapixel. Interestingly, Pixel 2 XL has bee given an insane 98 score by DxOMark, making it the best smartphone camera ever.
