The second-generation Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are now official. The new smartphones come with improved design, better and faster internals, new features, and more. The Pixel 2 XL competes with other flagship devices such as Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus. We pitted all three smartphones against each other. Price and availability

The Pixel 2 XL will be offered in 64GB storage variant priced at Rs 73,000 and the 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 82,000. It will be exclusively available to purchase via Flipkart, with pre-orders starting from October 26, and the smartphone going on sale on November 15. The Galaxy Note 8 is priced at Rs 67,900; while the iPhone 8 Plus is offered in a 64GB variant priced at Rs 73,000, and a 256GB variant priced at Rs 86,000. Display

Giving a tough fight to the competition, the Google Pixel 2 XL comes with an edge-to-edge 6-inch P-OLED display running at a resolution of 1,400 x 2,880 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch dual edge curved display running at a resolution of 1,440 x 2,960 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Chipset, RAM and storage

The Pixel 2 XL is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB storage. The Galaxy Note 8 is powered by Samsung s Exynos 8895 octa-core SoC paired with 64GB storage and 6GB of RAM. The iPhone 8 Plus, on the other hand, runs Apple s A11 Bionic hexa-core SoC paired with 64GB / 256GB storage. While Apple doesn’t usually talk about the RAM, a recent iFixit teardown revealed that the smartphone comes with 3GB of RAM. Cameras

Out of the three smartphones, the Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come with dual-cameras. The Pixel 2 XL sports a single rear camera with a 12-megapixel resolution (aperture f/1.8). And while it misses out on the dual camera setup, Google has made software improvements by adding Machine Learning-based portrait mode to add DSLR-like blur background effects to your photos. The iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 both feature twin 12-megapixel cameras, but with a minor difference. In case of the iPhone 8 Plus, you get a 12-megapixel sensor (wide-angle lens) of aperture f/1.8 with optical image stabilization (OIS), supplemented with a 12-megapixel (telephoto lens) of aperture f/2.8. The setup allows you to add DSLR-like blur effects to your photos and also offers 2X lossless optical zoom. The Galaxy Note 8 also features twin 12-megapixel sensors a wide angle lens with aperture f/1.7 and OIS, and a telephoto lens of aperture f/2.4 with OIS. Together, both cameras allow you to capture wide-angle photos, add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos, and also allows for 2X optical zoom functionality. Up front, the Pixel 2 XL and Galaxy Note 8 feature 8-megapixel sensors, whereas the iPhone 8 Plus comes with a 7-megapixel sensor.

Operating system, battery and connectivity

The Pixel 2 XL runs on pure Android 8.0 Oreo, whereas the Galaxy Note 8 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat with a layer of Samsung s custom UI on top. The iPhone 8 Plus, on the other hand, runs iOS 11 out of the box. In terms of battery capacity, the Pixel 2 XL comes with a 3,520mAh battery, the Galaxy Note 8 is armed with a 3,300mAh battery. While the Pixel 2 XL and Note 8 feature fast charging, the Note 8 also comes with wireless charging. All three smartphones also come with certification for water and dust resistance. In terms of connectivity, you get 4G LTE with VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The Galaxy Note 8 also comes with an S Pen stylus support for doodling and taking down quick notes, which is a unique feature compared to the other smartphones.
