Prior to the release of the Pixel 2 duo, widespread reports mentioned three codenames, suggesting there would be three phones. However, that did not happen as Google only released the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Now, the latest report on Droid Life also hints at three codenames for the next Pixel phones, “crosshatch , albacore , and blueline . Of the three, two are being described as ‘premium’ phones while the third is referred to as ‘high-end’. The codename ‘crosshatch’ has also been discovered through a comment to an AOSP listing in reference to Pixel devices. The mention of the codename in the listing is under a discussion, which is part of Pixel and Qualcomm code. Interestingly, there is also a reference to a mysterious “wahoo” device. While it is still too early to predict Google’s 2018 Pixel lineup, if the codenames are to be believed, then the ‘Pixel 3’ lineup could possibly follow Apple’s approach this year of announcing two regular successors along with a special edition, high-end device.
It has been only a few weeks that the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones went on sale, and the first evidence of Google’s progress on the next-generation phones is already here. This could also suggest that the company is now picking pace in the race and perhaps aiming at launching new hardware more frequently.
