Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the third generation Pixel smartphones, will be officially unveiled at an event in New York on October 9. Ahead of its official launch next month, the smartphones have been subject to multiple leaks and rumors. The leaks so far have raised questions about the design language that Google plans to adopt with this year’s smartphones. Among the two devices, the Google Pixel 3 XL has been subject to multiple leaks, where it indicates a notched display design. The Pixel 3, on the other hand, is said to feature thinner bezels and a display without notch. While these two models have leaked separately in the past, a new leak shows the devices side-by-side in a purported official press render. The renders obtained by Nieuwe Mobiel shows the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL as we have seen them previously in other leaked images. The smaller Pixel 3 looks almost identical to last year’s Pixel 2 XL while the larger Pixel 3 XL has a design that seems to embrace the notch. The renders also show one of the purported fabric cases, which are similar to the one launched with last year’s model. The renders also show that the cutout at the bottom for USB Type-C port is narrower than last year’s model. These renders also show redesign Pixel launcher where the Assistant icon is in the Google Search bar.
One of the biggest misgiving of this render is the wallpaper which shows a big grey 3 number on the screen. This grey 3 number has already appeared on the Pixel 3 teaser site and there is a possibility that someone simply photoshopped those pictures onto the screen of the device in question.

While it almost seems confirmed that Pixel 3 will ditch the large bezels seen on its predecessor and will not have a notch, the Pixel 3 XL’s design raises suspicion. There are multiple reports suggesting these leaks of Pixel 3 XL are just Google’s method of building hype for the smartphone. There are also rumors of Google working on a truly bezel-less device that would be called as the Pixel 3 XL. We will need to wait until October 9 to know what Rick Osterloh and his team at Google are cooking for the big hardware event.
