Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL are considered to sport the best camera on a smartphone at the time of writing. It is especially impressive considering that Google is able to achieve the image quality with the help of a single camera sensor where companies are experimenting with multiple camera sensors. If you are unaware of the reason about how the company is able to achieve this then the reason for this is the machine learning algorithms that help the device in computational photography.

Since the majority of this is based on algorithms, the base of the impressive image quality lies in the camera software. With time, skilled Android developers and modders realized this and they have been working on porting the Google Camera from the Pixel onto other devices. The initial porting effort started last year after the launch of the Google Pixel 2 XL late last year. Software modders wanted to bring the much talked about portrait mode along with other Pixel exclusive features to other devices.

Now, what if users could use the Google Pixel 3 camera on one of the most beefed up Android flagship in the market such as the OnePlus 6. It looks like XDA senior member Arnova8G2 wanted to do the same thing, and he started working on his port. The thing to note here is that this is not the first time for Arnova8G2 and he has been working on the Google Camera Pro for a long time.

As part of his development effort, other developers have been able to build upon his work to bring the Google Camera to older devices including the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. According to a recent port, Arnova8G2 announced the stable release of Google Camera version 6.1.013 for the OnePlus 6.

To ensure better performance, the developer has also disabled the features that are currently working. To recap, HDR+, HDR+ ON, Enhanced, Portrait Mode, capturing RAW files, Video recording in 1080p at Auto, 60, or 30 frames per second along with “Motion Auto Focus”, Face retouching, and Google Lens suggestions. There is no zoom in portrait mode, resampling, Night Sight, Slow Motion, Photobooth for Top Shot. He added that this stable version will give him time to work on the modes that are not working at the time of writing.
