Google is working on three Pixel-branded smartwatches and second generation Pixel Buds along with Pixel 3 for its hardware lineup in 2018. These Pixel-branded smartwatches will be powered by Wear OS, the re-branded Android Wear platform. Trusted leaker Evan Blass tweeted the information about these smartwatches stating that a reliable source informed him about this new development.

This information comes right after Qualcomm announced that it will finally start designing chipsets for Wear OS and the new chipset would launch this fall with lead smartwatch . The fall season means around October, November, and December which aligns perfectly with the timeline for Google s hardware event this year. Google hasn’t made any official announcement about the rumored smartwatches at the time of writing. German website WinFuture revealed some details about the upcoming Pixel-branded smartwatches.

According to the report, the code names of the watches will be Ling , Triton , and Sardine . The products have reached second level of design verification where the company checks if mass production of the hardware design is feasible. All the smartwatches in question will be powered by Qualcomm s upcoming Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC platform. Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC platform will come with a quad-core CPU that will be based on ARM Cortex-A7 architecture made using 28-nm manufacturing process.

Qualcomm will also pack Adreno 304 GPU for all the graphics-intensive tasks. According to the report, the highlight of this new platform will be a new power management solution known as the PMW3100. It is likely to be a power management IC that is designed using Blackghost , a test chip that was aimed to power Internet-of-Things, e-medical applications, and wearables.

This paved the way to Qualcomm s new Blackghost ultra-low-power mixed-signal SoC lineup. The Blackghost chip is likely to be the part of the Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform and it will always be on. This means that it can handle the ability to take voice commands at any time or information shows in the always-on display . This means that the actual processor will only be used when it is active and everything else will be offloaded on Blackghost.
