Last week, Google launched its much-anticipated Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones at an event in New York. The two, as expected, come with top-of-the-line hardware and enhanced camera performance. Talking about the Pixel 3 XL, which had everything leaked about it in the weeks prior to the launch, it sports a 6.3-inch QHD+ display, complete with a disturbingly-deep notch up top. As ridiculous as that display looks, it’s apparently quite good. In fact, DisplayMate believes it’s the best out there.
The company, which extensively tests out displays on electronic devices like smartphones and TVs, has conferred the ‘Best Smartphone Display’ award to Pixel 3 XL’s P-OLED panel, in an exhaustive shootout.
DisplayMate has Lab Tested the Google Pixel 3 XL OLED Display which has earned our Highest A+ Rating and a DisplayMate Best Smartphone Display Award. Our in-depth Display Shoot-Out review article will go live here on Monday October 15.

In its findings, DisplayMate noted that ‘..The Pixel 3 XL delivers uniformly consistent all around Top Tier Display Performance and receives All Green [Very Good to Excellent] Ratings in All of the DisplayMate Lab Test and Measurement Categories. The Pixel 3 XL is only the third display we have ever tested to get All Green in All Categories – the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note9 were the first. The Pixel 3 XL receives an Overall Display Assessment Grade of A+.’
According to DisplayMate, Google has improved the display on multiple quality parameters, including ‘Absolute Picture Quality’ and ‘Absolute Color Accuracy’. This has been achieved by implementing ‘Precision Factory Display Calibration’, moving the overall Pixel 3 XL display performance up to record-setting outstanding levels.

Interestingly, last month, DisplayMate had (also) adjudged iPhone XS Max’s 6.5-inch OLED panel as the best smartphone display.
