Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the successors to Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, are not expected to launch before October. However, the smartphones have been part of multiple leaks in the past few weeks raising a question whether Google will launch the devices early this year.

Google Pixel 3 XL, the larger of the two models has now stopped by the popular benchmarking tool Geekbench, revealing key specifications and features of the device. The listing confirms that Google Pixel 3 XL codenamed Crosshatch will come with 4GB of RAM and runs Android 9.0 out of the box. The smartphone has scored 2,426 in single-core benchmark test while its multi-core score was recorded at 8,355 points. The scores recorded by the device are similar to that achieved by Asus Zenfone 5Z.

The Zenfone 5Z achieved 2,457 on single core and 8,757 in multi-core performance. The slightly higher score of Zenfone 5Z can be attributed to the 6GB RAM found under the hood of the smartphone. It is not clear whether Google will only launch the Pixel 3 XL with 4GB of RAM or will there be a higher variant with 6GB or 8GB of RAM. With smartphones getting used more frequently and offering intensive applications, it will be better to have more RAM at your disposal.

Like most other flagship smartphones released this year, the Pixel 3 XL will also be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. The Snapdragon 845 is also powering most flagship devices including the Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, HTC U12+, OnePlus 6 and Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium.

Apart from details about its performance, the Pixel 3 XL’s Geekbench listing also reveals that it will be running Android 9.0. It should not come as a surprise since Pixel series has always been about latest software in a premium hardware package. Tipster Evan Blass claims Google will officially launch Android P on August 20, which seems likely considering Google has launched previous versions of its mobile operating system in August.

While Android P has been available in the form of beta for sometime now, there is not likely to be a lot of new features with the final release. It is not clear what Android P will be called but recent reports hint at it being called Pistachio. Other possible candidates include Popsicle, Peppermint and Pumpkin Pie.

The leaks so far indicate that Google Pixel 3 will feature a taller display with 18:9 aspect ratio and thinner bezels. The Pixel 3 XL, on the other hand, will feature a notched display and retain the stereo speaker setup. Both the phones are expected to feature single rear camera setup and dual cameras at the front. They are also expected to sport glass back with support for wireless charging.
